MacDonald Highlands Lifestyle Shifts This Fall in Henderson

Drive out of the guard house on a clear evening, turn north toward Paseo Verde, and the skyline you see from your back patio starts to feel closer than the retail options at the bottom of the hill. That has been the quiet trade-off of living at 2,700 feet above the valley for the last twenty years. The address delivered privacy, elevation, and Strip views. The immediate perimeter delivered a District that opened in 2004 and not much new since.

That trade-off is finally shifting. Between the recently remodeled clubhouse inside the gate, a wave of restaurant openings at the resorts you actually drive past on the way home, and a $55 million retail conversion breaking ground within a few minutes of the enclave, the fall and winter of 2026 mark the first real perimeter refresh MacDonald Highlands residents have seen in two decades.

Inside the Gate: DragonRidge Has Quietly Become a Full Social Venue Again

If your last visit to DragonRidge Country Club was pre-remodel, the clubhouse now reads differently. The remodeled clubhouse features ONYX, a bar known for its happy hours, along with two restaurants offering seasonal menus, plus indoor and outdoor lounge spaces, a ballroom, swimming pool, snack bar, and golf shop. The steakhouse is Montrose, the casual room is Dragon Grille, and the bar programming has been rebuilt around ONYX.

The 40,000 square foot footprint matters less than what it now hosts on a given week. The club runs holiday events like Breakfast with Santa, a New Year's Eve party, and other seasonal festivities, and the club offers childcare for these parties along with food, drinks, and valet service. For residents who joined years ago primarily for the golf, the practical implication is that you no longer need to leave the gate for a weeknight dinner, a large family holiday event, or a place to put out-of-town guests for the evening.

A note on the calendar worth marking: a food and drink event is scheduled at the club for September 24, 2026, one of several member-facing dates on the fall lineup.

The Twenty-Year Gap on Paseo Verde Is About to Close

Here is the fact that reframes the neighborhood's near-term future. The approval marks the largest retail project to break ground in Henderson since The District at Green Valley Ranch opened in 2004, addressing a two-decade gap in elevated shopping and dining options for one of Nevada's most affluent communities.

The project is called The Cliff. Several eateries and retailers will open locations at The Cliff, a 100,000-square-foot complex converted from two office buildings, according to developer CAST, with Arhaus, a home furnishing brand, serving as an anchor tenant, occupying nearly 16,000 square feet. The vision transforms aging office buildings near the intersection of Paseo Verde and St. Rose Parkway into a contemporary gathering place. For anyone leaving the enclave and heading toward the 215, that intersection is not a detour. It is the route.

The confirmed tenant list, as it stands going into the second half of 2026:

  • Arhaus, the anchor home furnishings retailer, at roughly 16,000 square feet
  • Next Health, offering IV therapy and aesthetic services
  • Lyte House, a functional supplement concept
  • The Taco Stand
  • Killer Whale Creamery
  • The Barista Botanist

The developers are targeting a fall 2026 grand opening, with construction timelines depending on permits, financing, tenant commitments, and market conditions, meaning schedules may adjust as the project progresses. Additional tenants are still being announced. Worth watching over the next few months if you have a stake in what the near-perimeter of MacDonald Highlands looks like by holiday season.

The last time a retail project of this scale broke ground within a short drive of the MacDonald Highlands gate, most current residents had not yet purchased the homes they live in now.

Two Resort Openings You Already Drive Past

Even before The Cliff's ribbon cutting, the dining count within a ten-minute radius has ticked up.

Irv's Burgers expanded its footprint in Southern Nevada with a new restaurant inside Green Valley Ranch Resort Casino & Spa at 2300 Paseo Verde Parkway, bringing more than 80 years of California burger history to the resort and marking Irv's third spot in the Las Vegas area. The location sits directly on the drive most MacDonald Highlands residents take toward The District, which makes it the kind of casual weeknight stop that does not require planning.

At the other end of the neighborhood's typical driving pattern, Chef Emeril Lagasse expanded his presence in Southern Nevada with the opening of Meril at M Resort Spa & Casino, a new celebrity-chef restaurant. M Resort sits south of the enclave off St. Rose, so for households that treat the resort as their default valet-parked dinner spot, there is a new room to work into the rotation.

These two openings do not individually change the neighborhood. Together with The Cliff, they signal a pattern: operators are choosing the south valley for their newest concepts, and they are choosing addresses that MacDonald Highlands residents pass on ordinary errands.

The December Weekend Everyone Blocks Off

If you have lived in Henderson long enough, you already know about WinterFest. If you are newer to the neighborhood, this is the citywide holiday event that is worth putting on the calendar before the December weekends fill.

WinterFest 2026 is scheduled for December 3 and 4 as the City of Henderson's annual holiday kick-off, returning with a drone show, a Night One tree lighting ceremony, a Night Two electric light parade, and holiday entertainment including performances by Ryan Shupe and the RubberBand along with the Coronado High School choir, plus a festive illumination of holiday décor at Water Street Plaza. It is a fifteen minute drive from the gate, it is free, and it is the closest thing Henderson has to a hometown ritual. The drone show alone is worth the trip.

For residents who host out-of-town family in December, WinterFest is one of the better ways to give guests a Southern Nevada holiday experience that is not the Strip. It also pairs well with a Water Street dinner before or after, which the district's event calendar keeps stocked through the season.

What This Adds Up To

Read the four items together and a coherent picture appears. Inside the gate, DragonRidge has reinvested in the clubhouse and expanded the social calendar, so members have fewer reasons to leave for a weeknight event. Within a ten-minute radius, resort operators are placing new restaurants directly along the routes MacDonald Highlands residents already drive. And within a year, the intersection of Paseo Verde and St. Rose Parkway will host the largest new retail center Henderson has seen since the current clubhouse was still on the drawing board.

The practical consequence is small but real. The distance between the front door of a MacDonald Highlands home and a credible dinner, an anchor retailer, or a holiday tradition is shrinking. For a neighborhood whose value has always leaned on views, elevation, and gated privacy, that is a quiet but meaningful upgrade to what daily life at this address actually looks like.

Fall is a good season to check in on it. Book a table at Montrose, drive by the Paseo Verde and St. Rose corner to watch construction progress on The Cliff, and put December 3rd on the calendar.
